Receptra Naturals is one of our favorite CBD brands.
Here’s why:
They are one of the few producers that still use cold-ethanol extraction to produce their hemp-extracts.
In a bit, I’ll tell you why this is a superior method to other types of extraction methods.
The second reason why we love Receptra Naturals is the fact that they use the resinous flower as a source for their hemp-extracts. This has a major influence on the potency of their products.
Today you’ll learn why Receptra Naturals CBD products have the best cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles of all CBD products.
Receptra Naturals produces a variety of CBD products:
- CBD oils/tinctures;
- CBD gummies;
- CBD soft gels.
- CBD creams, and;
- CBD body lotions.
Until recently, all of their products are true ‘full-spectrum’ products. This meant that all of their products contain THC (less than 0.3%), plus a variety of other hemp-derived cannabinoids and terpenes (a wider variety, in higher concentrations than 90% of CBD products that we have reviewed).
Today, they also have a few THC-free options for those who are subjected to regular drug tests. Even small concentrations of THC taking over a long period of time can make you fail a drug test. So yes, you can fail drug tests with THC-containing CBD products.

Overview Receptra Naturals
Receptra Naturals is a Colorado-based CBD brand. It seems that most high-quality CBD brands are from Colorado. With its robust hemp agriculture program and favorable growing conditions, it seems it’s the best place to cultivate hemp in the U.S.
As explained in the introduction, Receptra Naturals is one of our favorite CBD brands because of these two reasons:
- They are one of the few producers left that make use of ‘cold-ethanol extraction’ (more on that in a bit), and;
- They only produce their products from extracts that come from the resinous hemp flower (instead of stems and chalks).
Let me explain the last point before I explain the benefits of cold-ethanol extraction.
With many other brands, you’re not sure whether they use stems, chalks, leaves, flowers, or just everything as one large pile of ‘biomass’. Flower parts of hemp plants contain the most beneficial compounds in the highest concentrations (1). A CBD product produced from the flower parts will have more favorable cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles than a CBD product produced from hemp biomass and therefore will have better effects.
You can see this when you look at the lab-test reports of Receptra Naturals products:
They all have a wide variety of hemp-derived cannabinoids and terpenes, in higher concentrations than most other brands.
Receptra Naturals is a vertically integrated CBD brand. They cultivate their own hemp plants and do so in an organic, pesticide-free way. They claim that:
“Less than 1% of industrial hemp in the marketplace would qualify for inclusion in our products.”
This is a big claim. But when we compare the cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles of Receptra Naturals products to those of other brands like CBDfx, we have to come to the conclusion that there must be at least some truth to it.
In all types of CBD products, we have rated Receptra Naturals as ‘the best full-spectrum’ option. Whether you’re looking for a tincture, softgels, or a cream, Receptra Naturals products have the best cannabinoid- and terpene-profile.
But having high-quality products isn’t enough for a CBD brand to be rated high.
At Herbonaut, transparency is another metric that has a lot of weight when rating a CBD brand or product.
And when it comes to transparency, Receptra Naturals scores a 5 out of 5.
Safety and Transparency Receptra Naturals
Receptra Naturals is fully transparent about its cultivation, extraction, and production processes.
But here comes the best part:
All of their products have a QR code that gives you direct access to a full third-party lab-test report. This report shows the following data for your product and your specific batch:
- Cannabinoid-profile;
- Terpene-profile, and;
- Absence from toxins and contamination-compounds like heavy metals and residual solvents.
While CBD brands sometimes show a lab-test report that’s several months old or don’t disclose the batch number at all, Receptra Naturals is fully transparent by showing the exact data for your specific bottle and batch.
The Source of Receptra Naturals CBD Products
Receptra Naturals CBD products are made from the flower of organically cultivated hemp plants with great cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles.
Why do I emphasize that they’re made from the ‘flower’?
Well, the glandular trichomes on hemp flower contains the highest density of beneficial compounds like cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids (1). A CBD product made from the flower will be 100% more potent and beneficial than a product made from the chalks, leaves, and stems of a hemp plant.
While the exact strain is unknown, we do know that Receptra Naturals controls what their farmers cultivate with the use of clones.
While Receptra Naturals farms aren’t currently USDA organic certified, they assure us that they make use of organic farming :
The hemp plants are both rain and drip irrigated and there are no chemicals used at any point during the planting, growth, or harvesting processes
Besides the favorable growing conditions (a lot of sunlight, fertile ground, and dry air), Colorado’s state agriculture program that consists of regulations like:
- Pesticide-control, and;
- Regular THC-checks,
makes it so that CBD products made from Colorado hemp have a very low chance of containing pesticides or high levels (above 0.3%) of THC.
The bottom line?
The quality of CBD products starts with the hemp plant, and Receptra Naturals makes sure all of their products are made from hemp plants that:
- Have favorable (for human consumption) cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles, and;
- Are cultivated organically, naturally, and without any pesticides.
The Production Process of Receptra Naturals (After Harvesting the Hemp Plants)
Receptra Naturals is one of the few CBD brands that make use of cold-ethanol extraction.
While this method is scientifically proven to be more effective than supercritical CO2-extraction for volatile compounds like (mono)terpenes (2)…
It’s also one of the more expensive methods. Cold-ethanol extraction doesn’t lend itself well to ‘large-scale’ production.
That’s why it’s so great to see there are still a few brands that make use of this type of extraction method.
Besides the strain, the plant parts used, and the drying and curing process, the extraction method has the most impact on the preservation of terpenes.
And since all Receptra Naturals have amazing cannabinoid- AND terpene-profiles…
We rate Receptra Naturals as ‘the best full-spectrum’ option in every category.
These products simply have the best cannabinoid-profiles, terpene-profiles, and contain the highest concentrations of other beneficial hemp-derived compounds like flavonoids.
Their tinctures, for example, are one of the least ‘filtered’ CBD tinctures. Their biochemical composition is very close to the flowers they’re extracted from.

Receptra Naturals CBD Oil/Tinctures Review
Since Receptra Naturals has been one of our best CBD brands for over 3 years, we have continuously tested their CBD oils during this time.
This review is specifically about their newest tincture formulations:
- Serious Relief Tincture;
- Serious Rest Tincture, and
- Seriously Relax Tincture.
All of these three tinctures serve a different purpose…
But all of them are among the best in their categories, as you’ll learn in a bit.
After reading today’s review of Receptra Naturals’ CBD tinctures, you’ll exactly know if this is the CBD oil you should give a try, or whether there are better options for you.
Potency and Effectiveness
There’s no doubt about it:
Receptra Naturals tinctures are one of the most potent and effective CBD tinctures you can get.
All three tinctures (Relief, Rest, and Relax) come with high concentrations of:
- CBD;
- Other hemp-derived (and beneficial) cannabinoids like CBC and CBG, and;
- Hemp-derived terpenes like linalool and limonene.
All of these tinctures are full-spectrum CBD oils of the highest order.
All of these tinctures come with a minimum strength of 25mg CBD/dropper.
And if you want an even stronger product, you can get Serious Relief with a strength of 66mg/dropper. The Serious Rest and Seriously Relax versions, unfortunately, don’t come with stronger versions than 25mg/dropper. But in our experience, 25mg is a great dose to start with, and in most cases, it’s enough to feel noticeable effects.
Cannabinoid- and Terpene-Profile Receptra Naturals (Theoretical Effectiveness Rating)
When we look at the cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles of all three tinctures, we can see that they all come with a wide variety of cannabinoids and terpenes, in above-average concentrations.
Below you can see our spread-sheet based on the publicized third-party lab-test reports. We use our own spread-sheet to calculate certain metrics like ‘CBD-to-other-cannabinoids ratio’ and ‘CBD-to-terpene-ratio’. Although these metrics aren’t perfect, they give us a strong indication as to the ‘full-spectrumness’ of a particular product.
Cannabinoid- and Terpene-Profile Receptra Naturals Serious Relief Tincture 66mg/Dose
Receptra Naturals Serious Relief Tincture has an especially wide variety of cannabinoids in high concentration, but only an average concentration of hemp-derived terpenes (compared to other premium full-spectrum CBD oils).
Cannabinoid- and Terpene-Profile Receptra Naturals Serious Rest Tincture 25mg/Dose
Receptra Naturals Serious Rest Tincture has below-average CBD concentration, but for every 1mg of CBD, you get 0.176mg of other hemp-derived cannabinoids. So even though its CBD concentration may seem low, the amount of other hemp-derived cannabinoids you get for every mg of CBD is MUCH higher compared to other tinctures. Also, the concentration of hemp-derived terpenes is extremely high. For every 1mg of CBD, you get 0.244mg of hemp-derived terpenes. This is significantly higher than most other CBD oils.

Cannabinoid- and Terpene-Profile Receptra Naturals Seriously Relax Tincture 25mg/Dose
Receptra Naturals Seriously Relax tincture doesn’t have the highest concentration of CBD. However, again, the amount of other hemp-derived cannabinoids you get for every 1mg of CBD is very high. Also, its terpene-profile is even more amazing than Receptra Naturals Serious Rest Tincture. It has an even wider variety of hemp-derived terpenes, in even higher concentrations. For every 1mg of CBD, you get 0.36mg of hemp-derived terpenes. This is extremely high. And its total terpene-concentration is 0.81%. While some CBD oils have an even higher concentration, when it comes to hemp-derived terpenes, this is probably the highest you’ll come across.
RELATED: CBD Oil for Anxiety: The Best Options
When it comes to full-spectrum CBD oils, Receptra Naturals takes the crown. While you might not get the highest CBD concentration, you get the absolute best cannabinoid- and terpene-profiles that we have come across.
And here’s why this is so important:
While the strength of your CBD oil is somewhat important, its complete cannabinoid- and terpene-profile is way more important. If you want more CBD, you can always take two full droppers instead of one, for example. But if your CBD oil has very low concentrations of other hemp-derived cannabinoids and terpenes, no matter how much you take, you won’t be ingesting any significant concentrations.
CBD works best in synergy with all other hemp-derived cannabinoids and terpenes (3), and Receptra Naturals tinctures contain these in very high concentrations. This means that no matter how big your dose, you will always be getting high concentrations of other hemp-derived cannabinoids and terpenes as well. And with that, you’ll always make maximum use of the ‘entourage effect’, the effect that refers to the process of all hemp-derived compounds enhancing each other’s beneficial effects (3).
Now you understand why we call Receptra Naturals ‘the King of full-spectrum CBD products’.
Our Test Results with the Product (Practical Effectiveness Rating)
At Herbonaut, we test A CBD product’s effectiveness according to how well it improves:
- Exercise-induced inflammation and pain;
- Situation-dependent anxiety, and;
- Sleep in general.
We always test any CBD product with 3 different persons. Dose-wise, we always test a dose that contains around 50mg of CBD. When you take CBD in the form of a full-spectrum hemp-extract, this is a relatively high dose and you may need a lower dose to achieve the results you want. We always recommend experimenting with different doses, starting low (25mg), and slowly working your way up until you’ve found your sweet spot.
The great thing with Receptra Naturals is that they have three different tinctures with three different purposes.
However, this doesn’t mean, for example, that Receptra Naturals Serious Relief, which is specifically formulated to relieve pain and inflammation, won’t improve your sleep and/or anxiety.
Below you’ll find our ratings per product:
Test-Results Receptra Naturals Serious Relief Tincture 66mg/Dose
As expected, Serious Relief scored very high on improving exercise-induced inflammation. It seems that the added turmeric omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, and avocado oil truly add an extra dimension to this product’s anti-inflammatory effects.
Of course, the basis is already very strong with an amazing cannabinoid- and decent terpene-profile.
Test-Results Receptra Naturals Serious Rest Tincture 25mg/Dose
Serious Rest is specifically formulated to improve sleep. Besides a robust cannabinoid- and terpene-profile, this formulation has added:
- Linalool,
- Hints of valerian root, and
- Flavors such as vanilla, peppermint, and chamomile.
And based on our test results, we have to conclude that these added ingredients really improve sleep even better than regular full-spectrum tinctures. This is our highest-rated CBD tincture for sleep.
Test-Results Receptra Naturals Seriously Relax Tincture 25mg/Dose
The Seriously Relax formulation is specifically formulated to relieve anxiety, and for that purpose, it has the following added (non-hemp-derived) ingredients:
- Lavender;
- Passionflower;
- Limonene;
- Lime, and;
- Ginger
As you can see from our ratings, while the anxiety-test-result-ratings are slightly higher than the other Receptra tinctures, they’re not that much higher. This leads us to believe that the (non-hemp-derived) added ingredients in this formulation, have less of a compounding effect when it comes to relieving anxiety compared to sleep and inflammation found in the other two formulations.
That being said, the overall ratings are still very high and although the difference in effects when it comes to relieving anxiety between this Receptra Naturals tincture and the other tinctures isn’t that big, we still rate Seriously Relax as the best CBD oil for anxiety.
Keep in mind that these tests that we do are highly subjective and therefore only contribute a part to the total rating we give any CBD product.

Taste
Ethanol-extracted CBD oils can have quite a bitter taste. That’s because this type of extraction also extracts bitter compounds like chlorophylls from the hemp plant. And if not all of the chlorophyll is filtered out, some bitterness will stay.
Since it’s the least ‘filtered’ extraction method, it also has the most ‘raw’ taste without any post-processing.
Well, Receptra Naturals proves it’s possible to have very well-tasting ethanol-extracted CBD tinctures.
The best part?
They have only added natural flavors to their products. Flavors like:
- Mint;
- Berry;
- Peppermint;
- Vanilla;
- Lime;
- Ginger, and;
- Lavender.
These flavors not only give their products a great taste but in some cases, they have uniquely beneficial effects of their own.
Price
Receptra Naturals isn’t the cheapest CBD brand.
Their production process is labor-intensive and their hemp plants are of higher quality than average industrial hemp plants, not only because of their genetics but also because of how they’re cultivated.
Receptra Naturals is a premium CBD brand with a premium price tag.
But for this premium price tag, you can expect the best CBD products available on the market.
To compare the price of CBD oils we have to standardize the price.
At Herbonaut we standardize the price in the following two ways:
- How much CBD (mg) you get per $1
- How many minor cannabinoids and terpenes you get per $1
As explained before, to determine the price-rating of a CBD product, it’s also important to know how many other (than CBD) hemp-derived compounds we get and for what price (all cannabinoids + terpenes).
CBD products can’t be reduced to their CBD content. Paradoxically, it’s all the other hemp-derived compounds that make a CBD oil qualify as ‘high-quality’.
When we compare these two value-metrics, we also get a good idea of the ‘full-spectrumness’ of a CBD oil.
Let’s take a look at the three formulations.
Receptra Naturals Serious Relief Tincture 66mg/Dose gets you:
- 14,3mg CBD per $1, and;
- 2.5mg minor cannabinoids and terpenes per $1.
Receptra Naturals Serious Rest Tincture 25mg/Dose gets you:
- 11,4mg CBD per $1, and;
- 4mg minor cannabinoids and terpenes per $1.
Receptra Naturals Seriously Relax Tincture 25mg/Dose gets you:
- 9,2mg CBD per $1, and;
- 6mg minor cannabinoids and terpenes per $1.
While these tinctures are more expensive than some other high-quality full-spectrum CBD oils, with Receptra you’re getting the absolute best when it comes to hemp-extracts.
These tinctures have the best phytonutrient and phytochemical profiles of all CBD tinctures that we have tested.
On top of this, you get additional beneficial compounds that make these tinctures even more effective for their specific purposes:
